Digressions: Fact or Fiction???? S.T.I.C.K !
We live in a different world than our parents grew up in. They are open to all kinds of scamming and con artistry which floods into their email accounts and into their mailboxes daily. This is because:
What was once written had to be factual. No more!
What was once agreed to and signed was binding and factual. No longer the case!
What our parents read, they could believe. Convince them: Never believe what you hear or read until you S.T.I.C.K.!
So...what is S.T.I.C.K???
S. T. I. C.K.
S
STICK and STAY with what you know. SEPARATE the facts from the fiction!
T
THINK. And, THINK “TRUTH?” How can I verify the TRUTH? THINK and question, and know the TRUTH before you believe.
I
INCREDIBLE INFORMATION??? IF it sounds INCREDIBLE, gossipy, wild, heart-wrenchingly sad, or too good to be true, it probably is! Verify INCREDIBLE INFORMATION for yourself.
C
CAN I prove this information? CAN this information hurt someone if I repeat it? CAN this information hurt me if I believe it? CAN I verify any of this?
K
KNOW the difference between opinion, lies, fiction or gossip AND truth, law, or facts. Know the difference between what you have been told, you “heard” and what you KNOW to be the truth especially where money, a person’s job, a person’s reputation, and safety are concerned.
People have been scammed out of their money because of incredible, believable tall tales and lies. S.T.I.C.K. where money is concerned.
People have used wrong job procedures because they did not S.T.I.C.K. but rather used procedures they “heard” were correct.
People have been ruined because others carried tales of slander and gossip to ruin someone’s reputation. S.T.I.CK. before you repeat something you “hear” or read.
People are dead because they put their personal safety concerns aside and trustingly went along to help someone who told them a tall tale of needing their help, before S.T.I.C.K.-ING.
----
Convince your parents (and yourself) that the world is now much different than the one that our society lived in during the times they learned about the world.
Help them not to fall prey to the mass floods of the written word and those who write them.
Protect your parents and yourself! S.T.I.C.K.!!
By the way, if YOU tell your parents this…they’ll never believe it. BUT, if you say you printed it off the internet from a notary in Texas who writes a blog called “The Notary Fringe” THEY’LL BELIEVE IT.
Could someone please write a column with this information in it so I can print it off and send it to my parents? That way, they'll BELIEVE IT.
Reporting from the Fringe of my Notary Life, Your humble correspondent,
Brenda Stone
